How To Wear A Jumpsuit - Advanced Level - If You Wore A Trend The First Time...Can You Wear It Again?

Aside from the whole getting-naked-to-go to-the-bathroom issue I've fallen back in love with jumpsuits. 

This is the one I have and love

But I've been on a fashion quest for a patterned one since I saw this photo

  

Of the incomparable Vix.

When you look up fabulous in the dictionary you will see Vix's name.

And this one

Ideally I wanted to find a vintage one like Vix...but it just didn't happen. 

Wearing a plain jumpsuit is beginner level. Finding and buying the right patterned jumpsuit is definitely advanced level. 

Too large of a pattern and it'll make me look larger than I am. Too small of a pattern and it reads as a solid to the eye. I was like Goldilocks looking for her perfect jumpsuit. Not too big, not too tight, not too long, not too short.

It needed to be

just

right.

 

This one.

When Anthropologie had their sale last week I went in to try it on. Then my husband forced me to buy it.

I know. 

The nerve.

The jumpsuit ticked off all my the boxes; right length, not too tight, pockets!, bright, floral, open neck, cinched high waistline, and guys...

it is made of silk! 

It is literally like walking around in silk pajamas. 

I feel so Hugh Hefner.

All I need is a pipe and several bunnies in my arms.

These two will do nicely : )

This is outfit #3 I'm taking to Amsterdam.

Now please let the weather Gods smile upon me when I'm there so I can wear it.

It must be noted that I did wear this trend back in the early 80's and I don't care that I'm wearing it again now despite what Stacy London says,

"If you wore a trend the first time around, you don't get to wear it the second time around."

It suited my body type then and it still suits it now. Plus it makes my little hobbit legs look much longer than they really are.

 

Fashion rules are for fools. 

Wear what looks good on you.

Wear what makes you happy.

Simple.

 

It just so happens that I made the necklace only a few days before I bought the romper. 

Funny how that works.

European Vacation Travel Outfit #2 More Maxi - Anthro You Had Me At Hello

I really can't think of anything more comfortable than a maxi, be it a dress or a skirt. 

They are like wearing a nightgown in public. 

This is the second outfit with this maxi skirt that I'll be taking to Amsterdam with me. The first outfit is here. 

I'm normally not one to wear so much black but it is convenient for travel.  

Plus it is oh so ... European!

I love how the necklace looks like the leopard is wearing a crown of jewels on his head.

I need to take photos of my other outfits I know I'm taking...a couple of them are recent purchases and are so freakin' fabulous!

I can't wait to wear them.

I'm trying to only buy thrift or consignment but that dang Anthro sale worked its devil magic on me yet again. 

Stupid store is like crack.

I can sometimes find vintage and thrift stores that I fall in love with...unique displays, wonderful one-of-a-kind inventory, brilliant salespeople, but at Anthro I get pumped just looking at the display windows. I study them like a student studies a text book. 

 I don't want to miss any detail. 

And in Anthro there are so, so many wonderful details.

I can feel my heart beat faster and the rational part of my brain regarding spending drips away like the edges of my ice cream in the summer heat. 

I'm sucked into the vortex of masterful marketing brilliance before I'm even 10 ft in the door.

What To Wear And How to Pack For 10 Days In Europe Style Blogger Edition

I am so so excited that I have been invited over to Amsterdam to meet up with some of my favourite celebrity blogger friends. You may know some of them...Anja, Greetje, and Sylvia.

I don't leave for another 10 days but my brain is hurting trying to figure out what the heck I'm going to pack for the 10 days away.

The weather in Amsterdam can be unpredictable cool and rainy or hot and humid. Those Nederlanders like to keep people guessing. 

Also since I'm meeting up with famous bloggers, some of them fashion bloggers, I need to bring my A game.

No pressure. 

Bringing my A game isn't easy to do while limiting the number of shoes. I've told you before, my feet are the Mariah Carey of divas, always unhappy about something. Normally switching up the footwear is the best chance of appeasing them. Choosing footwear for this trip is like choosing the winning lottery numbers...

only harder.

So here is one outfit I'm stongly considering. 

It has hit three of my requirements for travel attire;

comfort,

it can easily be layered or the foot-ware switched out to accommodate a change in climate

and finally it has a little somethin' somthin' extra

Emeril calls it the "Bam!" factor. 

 

Now if I had pyrotechnics following me around and wild music this would really go Bam!

Since I'm keeping it real, I will just ask Anja, Greetje and Sylvia to hum and carry sparklers.

I'm still trying to figure out how to take over lifts for all of my shoes. I have a feeling I am going to look look like a Lilliputian next to these statuesque ladies in photos. 

I called up my buddy Tom Cruise for help on how to look taller in photos.  He said to always travel with a small box to stand on when posing for photos.

Just three Nederlanders humming and carrying sparklers. 

Yeesh.

That guy acts like such a movie star.

Fast Easy Healthy Low Fat Low Calorie Lunch Idea

I'm so excited to be heading overseas soon to meet up with some wonderful celebrity bloggers and one of the gals I'll be visiting asked me what I like to eat during the day.

I've already covered the granola that I eat for breakfast, but I thought I'd share some of my quick lunch ideas that I enjoy while trying to keep off the creeping weight monster.

I must be part squirrel because I adore nuts and seeds. I keep roasted pumpkin & sunflower seeds and a litany of roasted nuts in my fridge. I don't buy them roasted, I buy them raw and roast them myself on a cookie sheet in the oven for about 10-15 minutes at 350 F.  That ensures there is no added salt or oil. Roasting makes all the difference in the world to the taste, so don't skip this step. Just do what I do, roast a bunch of them at once and put them in sealed in baggies it the fridge. They will keep for months like that.

2 slices Ryvita toast/crackers multigrain 

7 slices cucumber (have as much cucumber as you like, it has practically zero calories and no fat)
2 tbsp light cream cheese
2 tbsp roasted pumpkin seeds
1 tbsp roasted sunflower seeds
total calories...307

Spread the cream cheese on the crackers and sprinkle with seeds and fresh ground pepper. I love fresh ground black pepper. I put it on everything.  Did you know that black pepper improves digestion and helps promote intesinal health? 

I kid you not. 

If I'm still hungry after this I'd have a green apple which is an additional 52 calories. 

I have a couple of other favourite lunches I make for myself all the time I'll share soon.

PJ pants, pantaloons, baggy bottoms,

MC Hammer pants. 

I wrote a whole post on why I should avoid drapey harem pants at all costs, but tried to give them a shot anyhow.

You know how it goes...I'll try anything once.

Fail.

I haven't worn those dancy balloon pants since last year. I couldn't get past the soggy diaper image.

To combat the overly spacious monster-crotch I decided to take in the waist so they fit up higher on my torso.

Not this high LOL, although there was almost enough space.

You might know these pants as AP... (armpit pants). I just hate it when I get deodorant on the waist of my pants!

I'm sure Celine Dion has worn this lovely ensemble. Also known as her, "Big Lady Pants". Or, "My pants will go on..."

 

I took them in so they fit my "real" waist, right at my belly button.

 Clint Eastwood is a big fan of high waisted pants.

For whatever reason, the older a man gets, the higher his waistline creeps.

Check Christopher Walken. He is only a couple of inches away from his nipples.

 

I may have gotten slightly off track...

Back to my now-altered-high-waisted-harem-pants.

Yes they are still a bit weird and drapey around the crotch, but I think now I could only shoplift a small cornish game hen and some salad fixin's rather than a full turkey dinner for 10 down the front of my pants.

Also they are at my real crotch. 

Not my prison pants crotch. 

They still add extra weight to my body and shorten my legs,

but darlin'...

they are silk!

and the pattern is so pretty!

Did I mention they are like wearing PJs? 

Am I sounding desperate enough yet?

The other reason why I think I kind of like this outfit now?

The peplum.

If you want the illusion of a smaller waist wear a tight fitted bodice that flutters out and away from the hips. Those women in the 1800's knew a thing about visually creating a tiny waist.

Funny enough when pelums first came out I thought they were going to make me look extra large.

They don't. In fact they create a wonderful nipped in waist and curvy hourglass shape.

Maybe...

just maybe...

I managed to magically turn this

Fashion Don't 

into a

Fashion Do!  

 

This made me feel so giddy that for a brief moment I believed I could fly.

A nanosecond later when my feet touched the ground I realized that this is just an OOTD.

Not a super power.

Since summer is for relaxing and not slaving away in the kitchen why not save yourself some work and make a cocktail that includes a snack on the rim?

Like this Cesar I made (Bloody Mary in the US if you make it with tomato juice instead of Clamato juice). 

I used this recipe and added some extra tabasco sauce.

For the garnish/snack I went all out in the pickle aisle and picked up jalapenos, sweet cocktail onions and olives. That wasn't quite enough so I added a cherry tomato, thick slice of cucumber and nice stick of celery.

If you are extra hungry add in a stick of blanched asparagus and a carrot too.  I have even seen these with tiger shrimp on the side. Yum!

If you are worried you might still not be satiated...pair this with some ready-in-3-minutes edamame and voilà...instant sophisticated appetizers and drinks. 

Ahhhh....summer...

you were never so easy.

What fab venue did I pick to wear a multi-coloured confetti-on-steroids lacy-satin-trimmed tea length party dress?

 I wore this to the salon and then the grocery store.

I take it upon myself to class up the joints. 

Cause that's how I roll baby.

 The dress doesn't fit as nicely as I'd like in the waist, so instead of tying the sash to the front, I simply tie it at the back creating a fitted waistline. 

I know the guys in produce appreciate a fitted waistline. 

Who am I to argue?

5 items every woman should own by suzannecarillo

These are five items that I find myself wearing repeatedly in my wardrobe no matter the season and should be in every woman's wardrobe, regardless of age. 

Wrap dress - They fit and flatter every shape of woman, are classic, sexy and will never go out of style. 

Well Fitted Dark Wash Jeans - Unlike the skinny or distressed jeans these "plain jane" dark wash straight legged jeans will never look out of place. 

Fitted Blazer - Classic and stylish no matter what you pair it with.

Pencil skirt - This is a throw back to my love of all things vintage. These can look fantastic on any figure as long as they fit correctly.

Cashmere sweater - Cashmere comes in many different weights, so it can even be worn in summer. It won't pill and you'll always look polished.
